摘要
Experts from the US found that fuel cells were increasingly being used to generate electricity to utilities across the country. The refrigerator-sized cabinets were Servers, natural-gas-powered fuel cells manufactured and owned by Bloom Energy, Sunnyvale, California. Each energy server contained a stack of solid-oxide fuel cells made with Bloom's patented process and design. One of the fuel cells generated 25 watts of electricity using natural gas and steam in a continuous chemical reaction while emitting some carbon dioxide, heat, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These fuel cells delivered power to the local electrical grid owned by PJM as part of a deal with utility Delmarva Power & Light Co. Bloom also announced a deal to provide its energy servers to eBay for a data center while making similar deals with Apple, Google, and Verizon.
