Statoil has announced that the Snøhvit development in the Barents Sea will produce gas from subsea installations in 250-345 m of water. The gas will be transported through a 160-km multiphase pipeline to a gas-liquefaction plant at Melkøya. The company expect to produce approximately 5.75 billion cu m/year of LNG. Plans to reinject produced carbon dioxide into the 45-75 m thick Tubasen sandstone in the Snøhvit development are outlined. The pipeline, gas liquefaction facilities, plant construction and LNG carriers are discussed.
