The issues discussed at Durban conference, held in South Africa on Physics and Sustainable Development, are presented. The use of physics education, energy technology, physics-based health systems, and economic development in improving living standards in developing countries was emphasized. A four-pronged approach to tackling the problem in physics includes setting up a website to provide educational resources, developing new teaching materials, establishing model teacher-training workshops, and enhancing the use of traveling physics laboratories. There were also a number of proposals in the fields of energy and health, the development of solar cell technology, and the production of cheap biomass power plant for small communities.
