In geology prediction of a tunnel construction in south China, the more systematic and detail tectonic frame was established based on recognization of secondary regional tectonics with the help of image data from Google-earth, rock geomorphology and geology tectonic theory. The research shows the secondary regional tectonics that could be recognized by geomorphology image (in this paper they are defined as middle view tectonics) are able to form serious risk sources. Once they were recognized accurately, the hazards would be controlled effectively. Meanwhile the results were used to guide detection in cave, the more secondary tectonics (they are defined as microcosmic tectonics in the paper and they can only be detected by physical exploration method or drills but not image data) would be found further. It was proved that the middle view and microcosmic tectonics were more hidden and dangerous, therefore they should be the main destination of detection. So the image recognization method based on Google-earth would be vital in geology prediction. © 2017, Editorial Office of China Civil Engineering Journal. All right reserved.
