N.Y. recycled mill project gains environmental OK

The permits that have been received by the Besicorp-Empire Mill project for its planned newsprint mill and power station in Rensselaer, New York is discussed. The Department of Environmental Conservation found out that the projects met all the statutory and regulatory requirements and the record reveal multiple economic social and environmental benefits. The projects will be built on separate parcels at the former BASF chemical plant site in Rensselaer that ceased operations in December 2000. The construction will take approximately two years to complete with newsprint production starting from 2007.
