Prototyping process produces sand molds, cores for production castings

A method of machining sand cores and molds was described as a means to produce prototype sand castings with the same properties as production components. The prototype process was found to be most efficient when machined sand cores were used in conjunction with molds made from rapid tooling. Case studies of the process illustrated the quick delivery of the prototype sand castings after the CAD file of the component was received.
