A kind of digital traction transformer protection is developed, which combines the second harmonic principle with the waveform comparison principle to block the differential protection, preventing its misoperation caused by magnetizing inrush. The increment differential protection is introduced to offset the low sensitivity of percentage differential protection during slight inter-turn fault and high impedance grounding fault. Criterions are set to prevent the misoperation caused by current transformer saturation and sympathetic inrush. The hardware and software platforms are built based on the new-generation 32-bit DSP and the RTOS system NUCLEUS PLUS respectively. The protective functions are tested by dynamic simulation and numerical simulation, verifying that the developed protection device has excellent performance against current transformer saturation, slight inter-turn fault and sympathetic inrush.
