During very stressful times with high unemployment, companies are running lean. This means that employees are called upon to do more than their original job description called for. In order to get people to work hard and be productive they need to be motivated. It takes time, effort, caring, social sense and interest. Above all, it takes an awareness on the manager's part to know that this part of the job is the most important thing.
