High-energy lasers may put power in space

摘要
The feasibility of building optical space power infrastructure in space was investigated using high energy lasers for converting sunlight to electrical power. The high effeciencies of photovoltaics illuminated by quasi-monochromatic light enables 50% efficiency in delivering power from space to earth. The collecting systems comprises of arrays of rotating mirrors disposed in two symmetric conical arrays. It is found that Gossamer lasers can be used effectively to enable optical space power infrastructure.
