A compact novel coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed dual-wideband antenna is presented. The antenna is formed by a ring monopole and a rectangular patch. The rectangular patch is embedded in the ring monopole, which makes the antenna structure compact. The ring monopole and the patch are employed to generate the lower and upper bands respectively. The measured bandwidths for the lower and upper bands are able to cover the whole wireless LAN(WLAN) and worldwide interoperability for microwave access(WiMAX) operating bands. In addition, good omnodirectional radiation characteristic over the operating bands are obtained. The measurement and simulation results are in good agreement, which validates the proposed design. © 2010 by Editorial Department of Chinese Journal of Radio Science.
