Compatibility of PVA/SF blend system with LiBr/C2H5OH/H2O ternary solvent

The polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/silk fibroin (SF) blend membranes were prepared by PVA aqueous solution mixed with SF solution which was prepared by LiBr/C2H5OH blend solvent. The conformation and structure of blend membranes were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), differential scanning calorimeter analysis (DSC), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD). Compared with the method of blending PVA and SF aqueous solution, the compatibility of two components of the system getting from this method were improved in some degree. With small content of SF, two-phase structure was not observed nearly in the blend system. The result shows that the solvent and proportion of SF in the blend affect the compatibility of two components in PVA/SF blend system.
