Nostalgia for times past

Simon Morgan reflects on his early memories of Traffex in the 1980s when things seemed a lot simpler. Before joining Cohn Buchanan to manage their software division, Simon had been a traffic engineer with the London Borough of Brent. Simon joined Brent in 1980. Fortunately he was a computer enthusiast because if one wanted to use a computer, one had to write the software oneself. Buying time on the mainframe was expensive and limited their aspirations, but before long the micro computer or PC arrived, offering both greater capacity and affordability. Networking was still a long way off and in those days computers were text-based and could do only one thing at a time. The development of software from those early days to today is in many ways parallel to the development of Traffex - a journey from very simple to highly sophisticated.
