Photon-induced thermal desorption of CO from small metal-carbonyl clusters

Thermal desorption of CO from photoexcited free metal-carbonyl clusters was studied using two-color pump-probe photoelectron spectroscopy. A statistical Rice-Ramsperger-Kassel calculation using derived desorption rate constant was used to approximate the unimolecular CO-desorption thresholds of Au2(CO)- and Pt2(CO)5-. It was found that the desorption rate for the two clusters differ due to the different numbers of degree of freedom.
