摘要
Direct assessment (DA) is a process in which knowledge of a pipeline system's physical characteristics and operating history is integrated with results of diagnostic testing to determine pipeline integrity. There is uncertainty over DA as a viable integrity assessment alternative to on-line inspection and pressure testing. Initiatives aimed at validating DA are described. These aim to validate DA for the assessment of external corrosion, internal corrosion and stress corrosion cracking-related problems. For Texas intrastate lines, all DA and other technology assessments required approval from the Texas Railroad Commission. NACE's external corrosion DA (ECDA) process is described.
