Reinforcement to methyl vinyl silicone rubber by Nano-SiO2

This paper studied the reinforcement of nano-SiO2 powders to gooey and methyl vinyl silicone rubber. Isometric with different amount and uniform amount with varied size were investigated, respectively. Shear strength of gooey and tensile strength of rubber were tested. The results indicated that the shear strength of gooey and tensile strength of rubber were reinforced notably. When w(epoxide resin):w(SiO2)=100:25, the shear strength was 14.97 MPa of the maximum. The tensile strength increased with the increasing of addition amount of SiO2 powder, when w(methyl vinyl silicone rubber):w(SiO2)=100:30, the tensile strength was 4.81 MPa, which was 16 times to pure rubber. And the reinforcement mechanism was discussed.
