The fuel particle coating is a key technology for the 10 MW high temperature gas cooled reactor (HTR-10). A new spouted bed with multiple gas inlets was used for the fuel particle coating. Coating experiments with different gas inlet conditions showed that the coating reaction zone in the spouted bed was limited to the bed spout, so the coating layer was more uniform and the layer density was low with little effect of particle circulation on the coating layer properties. A lower spout height in the bed reduced the coating layer crack. Accordingly, the spouted bed is effective for coating fuel particles.
