The upconversion luminescence of Er3+doped and Er3+, Yb3+co-doped Y2SiO5

In this paper, a new upconversion luminescence material X2type Y2SiO5:Yb, Er was reported. The upconversion luminescent properties as a function of Yb3+concentration and pumping power were were studied: (1) As Yb3+concentration increased, both the green and red light increased first, and then decreased. However, compared with the green light emission, the red depended on Yb3+concentration more strongly, and pure red light emission was obtained when Yb3+concentration was 12mol%. (2) The relationship between the upconversion intensity and pumping power indicated that the upconversion emission based on two-photon absorption. Moreover the mechanisms of upconversion luminescence were studied. It was considerered that as Yb3+concentration increased, the effects of the excited state absorption of Er3+, energy transfer from Yb3+to Er3+and cross-relaxation of Er3+on the upconversion luminescence gradually enhanced in turn.
