Some of the significant price factors associated with recycled materials or resins that are being used by plastics manufacturers, are discussed. Suppliers indicate that the prices for HDPE is likely to increase in 2009 after a decrease in December, 2008 and January, 2009. Prices for recycled HDPE are expected to increase up to 3/lb in March 2009 and the agricultural sector may become a favorite sector for recyclers as it has a growing demand for HDPE. Recycled PET prices are decreasing and the Chinese start purchasing on the West Coast, while the R-PET market for bottles and thermoformed packaging is increasing. A reseller reveals that virgin off-spec PP is decreased to 20/lb and PP post-industrial colored pellets are now available for 18-20.
