Safety at the workplace

Contrary to the popular opinion, the use of machinery equipped with cylinders does not make the printing house a more dangerous workplace than other 50% of types of industrial enterprises. Safety risks in the graphic-art industry are not the same for all activities. Thus, in France the accident rate per 1000 workers varies from 78 industrial bookbinding to 20 in prepress and reprography compared to 44 for the entire French industry. On the average, the gravity of accidents, expressed as the number of lost working days, varies from 54 in printing to 35 in prepress compared to 41 in the entire industry. The rate of permanent incapacity is lower than 10% per 1000 employees. Such good performance is due to the high education level of the workers.
