The current situation in the aluminum metalcasting industry is discussed. While no portion of the foundry industry can lay claim to be robust, aluminum metalcasters have fared better than many of their ferrous counterparts. One of the biggest reasons aluminum metalcasters are bullish on the future is the steady increase in the use of aluminum castings, as well as other parts, in cars. The statistics of 2002 reflect that nearly 86% of engines heads are aluminum, up nearly 20% over 1999 statistics. Aluminum wheels are also gaining in popularity, accounting for 62% of the market in 2002, up from 58% in 1999.
