Experimental analysis for accumulated ash in DPF -effect of high quality low ash oil

In heavy duty diesel engine oil, some metallic additives are now commonly used for keeping engine parts clean, acid neutralization, anti-wear, and so on. When the use of diesel particulate filters becomes more common, partial occlusion of the DPF by metallic deposits from oil additives that increase the pressure drop of the DPF is a concern. The impact of sulfated ash reduction of DEO has been investigated by engine dynamo tests on a trial DPF. The low ash oil was quite effective on the pressure drop of the DPF. And a new DEO, also low sulfated ash, showed good performance in a field test. © 2004 Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, Inc. All rights reserved.
