Mechanical Properties of Alkali‑Activated Fly Ash Cementitious Materials under Microwave Curing Stages

In order to explore the adaptability of microwave curing to alkali‑activated fly ash cementitious materials （AAFA）， the mechanical properties of AAFA with different Si/Al ratios were studied by adding metakaolin or silica fume to adjust the Si/Al ratio. The hydration products and microstructure of AAFA were analyzed. The results show that compared with the traditional steam curing， the early strength development of AAFA with Si/Al ratio greater than 1.92 after microwave curing is faster， but the specimen with too long microwave curing time will show significant strength shrinkage. More alumina rich N‑A‑S‑H gel phases can be generated inside the AAFA specimens with Si/Al ratio smaller than 1.97， which yield more compact microstructure and better high temperature stability， so that the maximum compressive strength is higher during the microwave curing stage， and the phenomenon of strength reduction can be avoided. © 2022 Tongji University.
