Power Coupling Characteristics and Decoupling Strategy of VSC-HVDC System Connected to Weak AC Power Grid

In view of the power coupling problems of voltage source converter based HVDC (VSC-HVDC) transmission system connected to weak AC power grid, the power coupling characteristics in the system were revealed by studying the linearized relationship between the active power, reactive power, terminal voltage amplitude and d-, q-axis current of rectifier/inverter, and a decoupling algorithm was proposed. Finally, a model of VSC-HVDC connected to the weak AC power grid was built in PSCAD/EMTDC, and the coupling characteristics of power are verified. The proposed dynamic feed-forward compensation decoupling algorithm is proved with better decoupling effect compared with static feedforward compensation decoupling algorithm and traditional vector current control algorithm. © 2019, Power System Technology Press.
