In this study, new designs of dielectric resonators with operating high-Q whispering gallery modes were considered. These designs included segmental planar and thin disk dielectric structures. It is shown that using such resonators makes it possible to expand the functionality of existing millimeter-wave emitting systems and improve their technical characteristics. Due to their multi-functionality, the weight and size characteristics of such systems can also be improved. Using the dielectric resonators based on segmental planar structures allows one to create emitting antennas of the resonant type with a multi-lobe radiation pattern in the azimuthal sector at angles from 0° to 360°. The principle of their operation is based on the diffraction of electromagnetic waves of HE polarization by local nonuniformities located equidistantly in the azimuthal direction on the cylindrical surface of dielectric disks. The gain of such antennas in the lobes reaches 12 dBi. It is shown that segmental dielectric structures with operating whispering gallery modes of EH polarization are the basis of narrowband filters. The bandwidth in the frequency range of 25–40 GHz is 95 MHz at −3 dB. The creation of small-sized power combiners based on thin planar dielectric resonators is proposed. Because of the high coupling parameter, the summation of the powers of two Gunn diodes is achieved with a summation factor equal to 0.93. © 2022 Begell House Inc.. All rights reserved.
