Vernacular characteristics of the built environment in Bushehr city

Vernacular Architecture (VA) is known for adapting residential buildings to climatic conditions for the comfort of users. The port of Bushehr in the south of Iran has a hot and humid climate. Its vernacular architecture has adopted design elements, in response to climate, at the scale of the city, building layouts, and architectural details and elements. This paper identifies the features at all three levels, using the descriptive-analytical research method, relying on the information collected from library and field studies. The results indicate that the satisfactory performance of these climate-friendly design strategies paves the way to employ them in the new urban context of Bushehr city. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
