Passive sliding-mode controller design of permanent magnetic synchronous generator

A passive sliding-mode control (PSMC) scheme for permanent magnetic synchronous generator (PMSG) was designed to achieve maximum power point tracking (MPPT) under different circumstances. At first, a storage function was built and the beneficial system nonlinearities were remained for the purpose of damping improvement, and all the other system nonlinearities were fully compensated to achieve a global control consistency. Then, an additional input was designed to reshape the closed-loop system into an output strictly passive form, and meanwhile a sliding-mode control (SMC) was employed to significantly enhance the system robustness in the presence of various uncertainties. As a result, PSMC can simultaneously offer the merits of improved system damping, great system robustness, and globally consistent control performance under different operation conditions. Three case studies, induding step change of wind speed, stochastic wind speed variation, and generator parameter uncertainties, were carried out, which verifies the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2020, Harbin University of Science and Technology Publication.
