This paper proposes controlling strategy based on fractional calculus for the load frequency control of microgrid. In this paper, microgrid consists of wind turbine generator, solar photovoltaic system and diesel engine generator. The diesel engine generator is fed by control signal from fractional PID controller to alleviate the difference between power generation and the load which will lead to a minimum power and frequency deviations. Genetic algorithm method and ISE performance criterion is proposed for tuning the parameters of controller. The proposed controller’s performance is analyzed in terms of fitness function, settling time, peak overshoot and oscillations. This fractional order controller shows better performance over the integer order PID controller. © 2019 by Begell House, Inc.
