摘要
Ambient air pollution is a global health threat that causes severe mortality, with impacts more intense in developing countries with large populations such as Nigeria. As such, air quality (AQ) monitoring and modelling are valuable techniques employed for investigating air pollution and its attendant problems. Hence, recent advances, main research gaps, challenges, and prospects for the use of these technologies in Nigeria are discussed based on published literature and other databases. The results revealed that current air assessment technologies in Nigeria are grossly limited. Thus, advanced approaches using satellite observations with high-resolution emission inventories, and state-of-the-art models for crossscale and cross-regional air pollution impact assessments are required. To achieve these, advanced AQ surveillance and further research through cooperation with advanced nations, improved government policies, better regulations, and regional cooperation are strongly suggested.
