摘要
Strangulation is one of the deadliest forms of violence. Yet, a gap exists in literature reviews specific to homicidal strangulation. Thus, this integrative review assesses and synthesizes empirical knowledge on strangulation's relation to perpetrator pattern and typology in homicide cases. Based on an electronic search of six databases, 10 studies meeting criteria for inclusion were reviewed. These studies demonstrate strangulation is a gendered form of violence, highly prevalent in intimate partner violence, and connected with sexual violence and spontaneous domestic homicide. Variability between studies is also discussed, along with implications for policy, practice, and future research.
