摘要
Peridynamics is widely adopted for understanding the propagation of damage in materials, however, peridynamics modeling of guided wave propagation in materials is still at its infancy. Peridynamics method creates immense opportunity in the field of nondestructive evaluation (NDE) and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) to simulate wave propagation in solids material. To venture towards this goal, it is necessary to understand the peridynamics approach and its current implementation schemes. How the peridynamics method could be used for acoustic/ultrasonic wave propagation in solids are discussed in this article. Specifically, it was found that only a hand full of attempts have been made to simulate guided waves in materials. The article outlined key challenges and respective guidelines for generating different guided wave simulation setups (for out of plane motion, in -plane motion, and three-dimensional coupled motion) using peridynamics approach such that new applications can be foreseen. Bond based and State based peridynamic approaches and their respective peridynamic parameters that are most effective for simulating guided wave in solid materials are discussed and recommended for future applications. Finally, the article explores the applications of damage -wave interaction in solids using peridynamic modeling approach. Although damage initiation and wave propagation are relevant to two different time scales, a single simulation setup could provide immense opportunity for studying and understanding the damage -wave interactions for NDE and SHM application.
