The interleukin-12 and interleukin-23 cytokines play a critical role in homeostasis and inflammation in the intestine and share various features, including a common p40 cytokine subunit, a common interleukin-12R beta 1 receptor subunit, and Janus kinase (JAK)-signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) signaling molecules that communicate downstream functions(1,2) (
