摘要：

Match Analysis contributes to a better interpretation of behavior and determining elements of team performance. Several studies have analyzed the possession of the ball in question and associate it as a predictor of success. The present study aimed to analyze the importance of ball possession and shots with the result of the match. The summaries of 64 matches of the 2018 World Cup were observed, available on the website of the International Football Federation (FIFA). For the study variables, the following were extracted for analysis: match result, numbers of shots on goal, percentage of total ball possession and also by field sector. There was no statistical difference when analyzing the percentage of ball possession between the winning and losing teams (p=0.407).
