Efficient synthesis of Bi 2 O 2 S nanoparticles for photocatalytic tetracycline degradation

摘要
Although numerous layered bismuth compounds have been studied, Bi 2 O 2 S remains unexplored as a photocatalyst. This study reports a tetracycline photodegradation in this compound, without the need for additional active species. The materials were effectively synthesized at ambient temperature via a rapid and straightforward solution -based method, yielding nanoparticles with a {0 1 0} exposed crystal surface. In contrast, hydrothermal synthesis produced well-shaped nanoplates with extra {1 2 0} lateral facets, which lowered photocatalytic properties. The exposed crystal facet is a key factor in the unassisted photodegradation activity of tetracycline. These findings may open the door to sustainability through chemistry of photocatalysis, thereby offering promising solutions for effective wastewater treatment aimed at addressing antibiotic pollution.
