WARNINGS BY LIONARDO SALVIATI BETWEEN PHILOLOGY, LITERATURE AND GRAMMAR

The essay analyses the two volumes of the Avvertimenti della lingua sopra 7Decamerone by Lionardo Salviati.(1584-1586), that play an important role in the linguistic debate of the sixteenth century. In the first volume Salviati examines the criteria introduced for his edition of the Decameron "rassettato" (1582) and he focuses on graphic and phonetic issues of the Florentine language. The second volume is the strictly grammatical part of the work and the focus is on the noun, the preposition and thearticle. By discussing some specific cases, the aim is to explain Salviati's linguistic theory and to analyse the relation that is explained in the Avvertimenti between the fourtheenth century written Florentine language and the sixteenth century oral language.
