There is always a good reason why the surface of a component or tool requires special finishing. Precision is an obvious one, but other drivers include preparation prior to coating or painting, modification of electrical conductivity, control of friction, deburring, and aesthetics, to list but a few. The reason, of course, will help identify the most appropriate finishing technology.
