To reduce the positioning error caused by thermal deformation of the lead screw drive system of CNC machine tools, the lead screw drive system was divided into several segments, and the thermal compensation device of the lead screw drive system was developed. The thermal error of each segment of the lead screw was detected by the device, and the thermal deformation characteristics of each segment of the lead screw were obtained. The data of characteristics was stored in the numerical control system, which was taken as the compensation parameter. The thermal compensation of the machine tool table running to each segment of the lead screw was carried out in real time. Taking the semi closed-loop CNC horizontal machining center as the experimental object, the segmented thermal deformation detection and compensation experiments are carried out for each axis. The results showed that the positioning error caused by the thermal deformation of each axis could be effectively reduced by using the compensation technology, and the actual compensation effect is good. © 2022 CIMS.
