When the grid voltage fails, it will impact the generator stator, rotor voltage and current, and will affect the grid security. In order to study the characteristics of brushless doubly-fed generators during grid faults and design the corresponding control strategies, this paper analyzes the equivalent model and damping characteristics of the control windings of brushless doubly-fed generator, and proposes a control strategy of introducing virtual resistance into the current inner loop controller, which can effectively suppress the oscillation of the voltage and current transient response of the control winding and speed up the response time. For asymmetrical faults, the influence of each component was analyzed, the positive and negative sequence rotating reference frames were introduced, the negative sequence component in the control target was eliminated, which ensure uninterrupted operation of the unit during the fault. Simulations and experiments show that brushless doubly-fed motors can be passed through a grid fault without a crowbar circuit. © 2021, Harbin University of Science and Technology Publication.
