摘要
Japanese railways are faced with the issue of a declining birthrate, aging population and how to optimize operation in such a situation. East Japan Railway Company (hereafter JR East) has been working on the development and verification of an boarding and alighting monitoring support system solely consisting of on-board cameras, monitors and other system components (hereafter the on-board platform monitoring system). On-board verification of the system for the visibility of images, conducted in different seasons, hours and weather conditions, has shown that the system can be used for one-man commercial operation of a train set of three to six cars. © 2021 Japan Railway Engineers' Association.
