Textile finishers have had to review their use of glitter as of 15 October (2023), as the European Commission (EC) has banned loose plastic glitter under a comprehensive restriction on synthetic polymer-based micro-plastics in the European Union (EU). The EU executive has released a detailed regulation restricting the use of microplastic elements in products following five years of consultation, including by specialists within the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), based in Helsinki, Finland.
