Chlorophyllum molybdites poisoning in Reunion Island: A case study

Few data are available concerning mushroom poisoning in Reunion Island. We report the case of a 43-year-old healthy man who ingested during summer 3 Chlorophyllum molybdites mushrooms misidentified as Volvaria sp. About one and a half hour tater, severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea were observed. Symptomatic treatment and fluid resuscitation in emergency unit were performed and he was discharged on day 2 without sequelae. This case report shows that C. moiybdites which is found in tropical and subtropical area is also growing in Reunion island. It confirms as well that its ingestion can induce a severe gastro-intestinal syndrome necessitating medical care in hospital. (C) 2016 Societe Francaise de Toxicologic. Analytique.
