CITIES IN THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF TROPICAL LANDSCAPES

Growing concern about the damage to natural ecosystems, particularly fragile tropical ones, underscores the need for determining their tolerance to intensive urban activity. This article describes the processes involved in sustainable development, provides a socio-ecological perspective on development, and discusses ecological engineering andeconomics. It also suggests ten steps designed to lead to better accommodation of cities in tropical landscapes.
