MANAGING THE INTEGRATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ACROSS THE CURRICULUM OF THE SECONDARY-SCHOOL

New legislation for Northern Ireland requires IT to be promoted as a cross-curricular theme in all schools and for all pupils. This requirement in relation to the role of IT in the curriculum has generated a range of issues and challenges many of the basic assumptions about the nature and organisation of teaching and learning. Two areas of concern requiring the attention of education managers are the development of effective strategies for professional staff development and the development of organisational arrangements in schools to accommodate cross-curricular linkages.
