B19 parvovirus infection is a principal cause of transient bone marrow suppression in patients with chronic haemolytic anaemias. Acute infection is described in a family of five individuals with hereditary spherocytosis; three of them developed marked hypoplastic anaemia. © 1990 Springer-Verlag.
