QUASI-CRYSTALS AND APPROXIMANTS IN THE AL-CU-(FE,RU) AND AL-PD-MN SYSTEMS

摘要
The formation and thermal stability of a quasicrystal and its approximant have been investigated in the ternary Al-Cu-(Fe,Ru) and Al-Pd-Mn systems. In the Al-Cu-Fe system, the rhombohedral approximant is observed with microcrystalline or a coarse-grained structure, depending on the annealing temperature. Also the intermediate state with tau almost-equal-to 1.75 is observed in Al62Cu26Fe12. In the Al-Cu-Ru system, the icosahedral phase is observed in two different compositional regions, which satisfy the condition e/a = 1.75. The 1/0 cubic approximant is found at the composition of Al71Cu7Ru22. In the Al-Pd-Mn system, the icosahedral and decagonal phases as well as their approximants are observed.
