EFFECT OF 2,4-D AND TRIBENURON ON THE CONTROL OF BROAD-LEAF WEEDS IN WHEAT (TRITICUM-AESTIVUM)

A field experiment was conducted during 1990-91 and 1991-92 to study the effect of 2, 4-D and tribenuron on broad-leaf weeds in wheat (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiori & Paol). In the presence of lamb's quarters (Chenopodium album L.), 0.25 kg ai/ha ester or 0.75 kg ai/ha sodium salt was found effective, but in the presence of yellow vetchling (Lathyrus aphaca L.) higher doses of 2,4-D were effective. Tribenuron @ 10 g ai/ha provided satisfactory control of the former but was not effective against the latter even at higher dose. Tank mixture of 2, 4-D ester @ 0.25 kg ai/ha and isoproturon @ 0.75 kg ai/ha was more effective, recording an average yield of 5,039 kg/ha and 3,808 kg/ha compared with 4,056 kg/ha and 1,892 kg/ha in weedy check plots during 1990-91 and 1991-92 respectively.
