EVIDENCE OF ENHANCED ANTIFERROMAGNETISM IN HIGHLY DOPED YBA2(CU1-XFEX)3O6+Y

A detailed study of the high-temperature magnetic susceptibility of the ceramic compound YBa2(Cu1-xFex)3O6+y, where x = 0.03, 0.09 and 0.15, has been undertaken using a Faraday balance. In-situ thermal cycling in a vacuum of 6 x 10(-6) mbar enabled reduction of the oxygen content to low values of y while monitoring the normal state magnetic properties. At increased Fe dopant levels a kink was superimposed on the Curie-Weiss susceptibility at low oxygen contents. This susceptibility anomaly occurred at 400-430 K, the antiferromagnetic ordering temperature of YBa2Cu3O6. The possibility of enhanced antiferromagnetism due to Fe doping is discussed.
