The third wave Ukrainian interwar political emigration to Romania

This article is based on the previously unknown documents stored in the national and foreign central state archives and describes the formation of Ukrainian political emigration to Romania during the interwar period. The primary focus is made on the third wave of emigration taken place in autumn 1920-21. The author provides the facts regarding military and political situation in the Southern part of Ukraine that resulted into flow of the particular groups of the UPR Army, rebels and civilians across the Romanian border. The article also contains the facts proving the attitude of the Romanian authorities towards the internees. Furthermore the article depicts the scope of actions taken on behalf of the Extraordinary Diplomatic Mission of the Ukrainian People's Republic in Romania with regards to the emigrants support. In addition the ground flow of the third wave of emigration is introduced in the text for the first time in modern Ukrainian historiography. The author concludes that Ukrainian political emigration to Romania was self-sufficing and had not influence from the side of Russian emigration. It was based on the military personnel of the UPR Army, partisan and rebellious group members and civilians. In the beginning of 1920th the total number of Ukrainian emigrants was equated to 4 thousand people.
