PH OPTIMIZATION IN ACID DYEING OF SILK

In a previous research on the dyeing of silk with acid dyes, we found that on increasing the acidity of the dyebath dye concentration on the fibre rises up to about pH 3, after which it decreases with a further decrease in pH. In order to explain this trend we have synthesized two acid dyes and studied their equilibrium adsorption isotherms at varying pH. With the aim of optimizing the dyeing pH of silk we carried out a spectrophotometric study on water at different acidity values, by means of the visible spectra of dyes, as well as a study on the stability of the fibre and on dye fastness at the same pH values.
