STRUCTURE OF BORATE GLASSES CONTAINING TL AND BA OXIDE

摘要：
The structures of two borate glasses containing heavy metals Tl2O&middot2B2O3 and BaO&middot2B2O3, were investigated using both X-ray and neutron diffraction. Structural models were built and radial distribution functions were calculated by the pair function method. In Tl2O-B2O3 glass, the presence of 3-coordinated oxygen atom proposed from an NMR study was not confirmed by this analysis or by Raman spectra. In the case of BaO&middot2B2O3 glass, the calculated PDF (Pair Distribution Function) for crystals of the same composition showed good agreement with the observed PDF.
