Reflecting on the impact of gender stereotypes and prejudices in daily clinical practice of mental health professionals is imperative to understand the differences in the forms of disease, psychosocial vulnerability, how to seek medical help, the biases of clinical attention in women and men. For that purpose we start with a basic definition of the differences between stereotypes, prejudice and stigma with the aim of questioning the factors that determine the social construction of gender relations. The ultimate goal is to move towards a gender comprehensive methodology for mental health professionals to enable us to find the determinants of gender in Mental Health and, as much as possible, to contribute to establish a future protocol of action.
